Microsoft have released two beta hotfix`s for windows vista. It is not recommended to install these on a production machine because they are beta (Windows Vista 32-bit)
The removal of the audio hardware abstraction layer from Windows Vista will compromise audio in legacy game titles that use EAX or DirectSound3D (DS3D), usually resulting in stereo output without any effects. Creative ALchemy is a simple download which will detect the presence of a number of top PC games and convert their DS3D and EAX calls into OpenAL calls, allowing users to continue enjoying their legacy titles the way they were meant to be enjoyed - in full, multi-channel sound with hardware effects.
With Vista Codec Package installed, you won't need to install any other codec or filter. Many user suggested default settings are implemented. It does not contain a media player. It does not associates filetypes. With this package installed you will be able to use any media player (limited only by the players capabilities) to play DVD's, movies and video clips of any format. Streaming video (real and quicktime) is supported in web browsers. Visit the homepage to get a 64-bit Addon which enables xvid, divx and DVD playback in Vista's MediaCenter.

This update should particulary be interesting for X-Fi Elite PRO users since it is the first non-beta driver for the X-Fi Elite Pro since November 15th 2005. Owners of the X-Fi XtremeMusic, Platinum and Fatal1ty cards will notice that the version number (2.09.0001) is the same as the one already released in July so no change here.
Creative just released a new set of SoundBlaster X-Fi beta drivers (July 12th 2006) for both the 32bit and the 64bit versions of Windows Vista. This update comes for all SoundBlaster X-Fi cards.
